Documentary photography essay on Pasadena California.
Pasadena is an interesting concept. As an independent city that stands apart from Los Angeles, it’s always had an identity that’s all it’s own. I began working in the area 6 years ago and was immediately intrigued by the unfamiliar environment. You can learn a lot about a place by documenting it’s neglected spaces and Pasadena is no exception. Interspersed among the restaurants and boutiques are spots where the rougher edges of life come to the forefront. Although it’s usually associated with Old Town or the Tournament of Roses, the complete story is far more complex. It lies just beyond the idyllic surface, in plain sight for those who choose to see it.
